Our Current Program
In 2008, Special Dreams Farm finally acquired its very own farm. Thirty-one Beautiful acres with a Farm House, Barn, Milk house, Pump house, Tool shed, and detached garage. Our current focus is to renovate, clean, paint, and otherwise maintain the buildings on the farm with a special emphasis on the house. Of course, the garden will be planned, laid out, and prepared for planting in the spring. Already, supporters have begun to donate time and materials to get the farm in working order.
In 2007, Special Dreams Farm relocated to the Wolcott Learning Farm operated by the Huron-Clinton Metro Park Authority. There SDF farmers were able to care for animals and maintain a vegetable garden.
In 2006, Special Dreams Farm received permission from William Arnold and his brother, John, to use a portion of his farm for a season of planting and harvesting both vegetables and flowers. A small number of farmers, supported by a volunteer staff, worked through the summer. Not only were their crops a success, but there were important lessons learned about organizing the work and the help required to run a small farm operation with our developmentally disabled farmers.
